Alpa’s approach and the EMDR therapy have been instrumental in helping me overcome the emotional impact of the trauma my family and I experienced. It has taught me to pause, take a breath, and feel more in control before addressing my emotions. I’ve learnt how to manage my feelings of helplessness, anxiety and upset by focusing on what I can do in the moment.
By the end of the EMDR therapy, I felt more in control and now have a clear plan in place for facing challenges on a daily basis. I’m now in a better place and am no longer deeply affected by the trauma of the past.

I wasn’t where I wanted to be in life. I was stuck and I couldn’t figure out how to move on, so I decided to try CBT. Alpa was amazing. She clearly explained each step of the CBT process and broke down the various components into bite-size, understandable concepts. I learned how to diffuse my thoughts and use controlled breathing to lower anxiety. At first I felt apprehensive, but as Alpa worked with me I felt happy and then excited to use these techniques. Since our sessions ended, I have been more calm and focused. I don’t feel stuck anymore, and I feel like I have the tools I need to move on to the next step in my life.

Before I stared CBT with Alpa, I didn’t know what it was like to live without anxiety. This therapy has shown me a different way to live and it’s so simple.
I know that Alpa is committed to EMDR therapy and she does it in an extraordinary manner. She is also open to feedback and to personalise the method to work best for the individual. While I found it helpful that she cared about the feedback from me, sometimes I wish I had known earlier that she was still working towards her qualifications. Other times I feel that it is better that I didn’t know as I would have been reluctant to try the method. I believe that we both learned a lot and found that EMDR can be very difficult for someone with ADHD, but we worked to find the way that it benefited me the most.
After suspending the therapy about 4 months ago, I still actively use the tools I learned from Alpa and I still think of her voice or listen to her YouTube meditation exercises when I feel that my mental health needs a boost. Not only will I be back to Alpa, but I will also recommend her and her techniques to people who might need therapy. I am very happy to have learnt that labels can be taken off and healing is possible, but also that therapy is not only a tool to work through problems but also a tool that aids personal growth. Alpa has taught me some really helpful relaxation techniques to help manage my exam stress, something I will surely remember to use in the future.
I undertook a dozen or so sessions with Alpa at a difficult juncture in my life in 2020 where a number of issues coincided to create a great deal of stress: my husband quit his job unexpectedly due to stress, my brother was treated for a stage 4 cancer, I have had long term caring duties for family members that felt overwhelming, two grown up children with their own issues and a full time job, plus cardiac problems.
Working through these issues during the pandemic with Alpa was so helpful. She supported me in disentangling the diverse threads of stress and tackling them through techniques that proved to be useful in helping me cope, albeit over time and much learning and relearning. She introduced me to some very useful tools. Its not easy to change one’s behaviour – to learn to respond to situations rather than to react impetuously. But after these sessions, I have some techniques at my finger tips to help me raise my tolerance levels about things I can do nothing about and focus on my own health and well-being and let go.
